The Glycemic Response of the Mulberry brand Basmati Rice has been also prepared.

Dr. Dinesh MIttal, M.D., a diabetologist, and dietician LEENA JAIN carried out G.I. calculations according to WHO recommendations and found G.I. of MULBERRY BRAND LONG GRAIN RICE to be 54. This is in accordance with calculations by international agencies.

HOW TO INCORPORATE LOW GI CONCEPT TO YOUR DIET:

o Step 1 - Calculate daily requirement of calories
o Step 2 - Replace about half of high gi carbohydrates with low gi foods.
o Step 3 - Take pulses ,vegetables ,fruits and milk as required

Some tips:

o Use breakfast cereals based on oats, barley and bran
o Use breads with wholegrains
o Reduce the amount of potatoes you eat
o Enjoy all types of fruit and vegetables
o Use long grain low gi rice like mulberry instead of short grain or sticky rice
o Enjoy pasta, noodles
o Eat plenty of salad vegetables with a LEMON dressing
o Mix low gi mulberry rice with pulses or meat or chicken or vegetables for ideal low gi meal.

LOW GI FOODS [upto 55] like youghurt ,whole milk, skimmed milk, wholemeal bread ,sweet corn , macaroni, noodles, pasta, mulberry long grain basmati rice, most fruits and vegetables and most pulses.
Medium Glycaemic Index foods (56 to 69)

You may include a few of these foods each day, but again limit portion sizes if you want to lose weight.like honey, pizza, buiscuits, ice cream, new potatoes, coca cola.

High Glycaemic Index foods (70 or more) Swap these foods for those with a low GI value or eat them together with a low GI food, like mashed potatoes, white bread, cornflakes.
